The Arrival Of Two New Turtles In My House

My mother's friend met a person in Ancol who didn't want to keep their turtles anymore, and they wanted to release their turtles in a swamp in Ancol. Of course their turtles cannot survive in the swamp because they are used to being fed and it means that they cannot find their own food. Those two turtles are bigger than my three turtles. My mother's friend asked my mother if I wanted to adopt them and I said yes, because my mother's friend doesn't like the look of their head; they look like snakes. Of course they looked like snakes because they're reptiles, the same like the turtles. I named the biggest one Novie, because she came on November, and the smaller one Emma.

From those turtles, I can learn that they have different personalities.

Sam / Samantha: kind, cheerful, friendly, and doesn't like to attack other turtles.
Sol / Solann : likes to attack, has difficulties in making friends, and fierce.
                                                                                                                                                      means sunshine but rarely used.

At first I thought that those two turtles are male, so I named both of them male names (except Sol, because she's naughty, and I just gave her a not really good name that popped the first into my mind ).

Rainy: likes to play, and can spot things easily.

She arrived at my house when it was raining. I adopt it from school, because my school only gave her a small aquarium to live in and with a small space like that she cannot grow well.

Novie: always stays cool and calm, and has no difficulties in making friends.
Emma: always feels shy with new turtles. While the other turtles play (of course without Sol ), she'll stay alone in the corner. If she's with Novie, she's fine, but with Sam, Sol, and Rainy, she's still shy, although it's less now.

Even if they're the same species, my mom and I noticed that Sam, Emma, and Rainy have slanted eyes, while Novie and Sol have round eyes.

My Writing That Was Chosen By Meddybemps

I want to tell you that when I was 6 years old my story was chosen by Meddybemps. I got a T-shirt, a statement that my story was chosen, and my story back. I wrote the story when I was 5 years old. The story was about a rabbit named Edgar who went to outer space with his friend in a spaceship. My mom sent it to Meddybemps and a few months later I was told that my story was chosen. Here is the picture:

My school principal said that I should stick the t-shirt on the wall, and put my story and statement in one frame, and hang it on the wall. You can read my story here.

My First Rank Trophy

Finally, I am free of my homework, projects, and tests. So it means that I can go back to blog. Here is my newest trophy: 1st rank for my Gloriamus  music school exam grade 3 and then I should play in a special  concert for the ones who got ranks. I'm the youngest in the grade 3 performance. My score is 80 something, but my theory score is not that high about 70 something. Here is the picture of my first rank trophy.

My 10th Trophy

Today I joined a piano competition held by Petrof piano house, one of my music course, and I won first prize!  My competitors were all older than me, I am in E-Elementary. The competition for my category was very early in the morning, at 8:30 a.m. So it means that I have to start going from home at around 7:00 a.m. I was sleepy by then. I made some mistakes but it's okay. I played two songs, "Knight Errant" by Friedrich Burgmuller, and "Sonatine Op.36 no.5" by Muzio Clementi. This is the picture of my trophy:

This is the writing on the trophy.

This is me and my teacher Ms. Grace take a picture in front of the poster .

I and Ms. Grace took a picture in front of the grand piano
used in the piano competition. I was holding the trophy and certificate.

This was me lining up with all of the contestants. The first
three on the left didn't win.

Early Myth of Ancient Egypt

In school, my friends and the principal who became my English teacher now didn't really understand about Egyptian myths. In one of my English book said that the scientists believe that the pharaoh will fly to the space and become a god. My principal thought that maybe it's true, there are gods, and it's a fact. Actually it's not. The Ancient Egyptians made it themselves. It's just made-believe, but they respected it. One of my friend also thought that the pharaoh would really fly to the sky. He had a question "what if the pharaoh didn't really fly to the sky?" when I tried to explain. So I made this poster to explain all about where does the dead pharaoh goes to when they died in the Egyptians believe. And these are the pictures + story about it :

Eating Chicken Intestines and Cow Skin Chips

Did you know that we can eat chicken intestines chips and cow skins chips? I tried them yesterday and today. You might think of those yucky, but it's really yummy, you know! Those are the first time I ate those food. I thought them yucky at first, but it tasted yummy! Here are the pictures of chicken intestine and cow skin chips. I tried the chicken intestines first at the Sup Ikan restaurant, while for the cow skin chips, I bought them in Hypermart Daan Mogot mall.
This is how chicken intestines chips look like. Think them yucky? Try some! Here in Indonesia we call it kripik usus ayam.

And this is the picture of cow skin chips bought from Hypermart. Here in Indonesia it's called Rambak.

Learning in Coursera

From my previous writings about my Coursera certificates, you might wonder about the beginning of  my learning in Coursera. I first knew Coursera from my Mom, and my Mom knew it from one of her friend, who is a science teacher in a school called German School. Coursera is an online course where you can learn anything that your heart desires. When I and my Mom explored the courses in Coursera, we found a course called Archaeology's Dirty Little Secrets. I was pretty interested in it, especially when I love history ( at that time I love history, but now I love astronomy too!). So I enrolled in the course, the course was very fun!  That caused me to like Coursera so I enrolled in more courses that I was interested in, mostly about writing, music, and archaeology.

Why do I like Coursera? It's because Coursera offers so many courses that I like. In Coursera, there are two options in some courses of how to take the course. First option is free course, the other one is to take the course with paying. If you pay, the course is still the same only they guarantee that your certificate ( if you pass ) is traceable in their data base . It is called verified certificate, but you must be  at least thirteen years old, for child safety. I was 9 yo last year when I first joined,  so I couldn't join the verified one. I have to wait for several years more.
Now back to me. After the archaeology course, I joined Dino 101, but I failed to get the certificate (I got 77.9 % from a minimum of 80%). It was my fault because that day I joined too many courses at once. So I rejoined it, because I'm interested in dinosaurs too! After I rejoined, I earned 96.7%.

Then, I see more courses and put more and more courses into my watchlist. The watchlist is for the courses that we would like to join next time. After that I joined writing course called Crafting an Effective Writer, Tools of the Traits ( Fundamental English Writing ). I earned 87.6% because my English grammar is not too good.

Because I love music, I joined this course called Exploring Beethoven's Piano Sonatas. The course was still too hard for me, like comparing one Beethoven's sonata to another, what's the difference, that's still too hard for me. So I made maybe two or three mistakes in the quiz of five questions, so I thought I will not get a statement of accomplishment, but I got it! I earned 76.6%. Lucky me.

What is the difference between learning in a school and in Coursera? Absolutely is the freedom! You are free to choose the subject that you are interested and free to manage yourself in the learning process in Coursera. The school is the opposite, because they have fixed subjects and fixed schedule, that maybe don't fit you.

After for a while, I found a course called The Art and Archaeology of Ancient Nubia  It's about archaeology, I joined it, I nearly got 100%, because in almost all of the quizzes I got all correct answers except a quiz that I carelessly answer, so I earned 98.8% with distinction. It is the highest point among all of the four courses that I'd attended.
In my last writing, I showed all of the certificates that I got, but not the Nubia certificate yet.
So here's my certificate:
It looks a bit short because I cropped it.
I hope all of you will enjoy learning in Coursera too. The lessons vary from politics to mathematics. You can share your certificates that you earned with me. Learn well, work hard, then you will achieve something that make you proud either now or in the future.

My Mom's New Book

My mom illustrated a children' book that was written by one of my mother's friend, Rhonda Paglia. The title of the book is Three Little Gnomes and a Boy Named Orion. You can buy the book in Amazon . You can also have a sneak peak there. You can also see the trailer. Here's the cover of the book:

The main point of the story was about three little gnomes who tried to find help for finding a name that suits them, for all of the names that they thought of were not good.  The story is so funny, and Wormy ( a character in the story ) is so cute!  I love it!

My First Communion

Me and my friends taking pictures with the Father.

Last Sunday, I had my first communion. The first communion is only for Catholics. In Catholic church, communicant eat consecrated bread in a sacrament  Eucharist that called "host". It's white and circle. And it' sometimes called "the bread of life". If we want to get the host, we must pass the first communion preparation first. I had my first communion in Trinitas Church. I and my friends brought the offerings for God. I and my partner Reynhard brought the host and wine, and my other friends that are partnered too, boys and girls brought fruits and flowers. We brought them to the Father in the church, that is mostly known as "Romo" here in Indonesia, and he will bless the offerings. I read the passage for the offering ceremony. Later all of the first communion kids in the church will eat the host that's dipped in wine. Here are my pictures:

This is me and my friends after the offering ceremony.
The picture is a little blur because we kept on moving.

My friend Caca (her real name is Theresa). Every time the first communion class was over, we liked to chase each other.

I enjoy my first communion mass, and the class too!

Quartet Piano in Gloriamus Music School Mid Year Concert

I join a piano course in Gloriamus Music School, which means glorifying God through music. Of course, there are grade examinations for theory and practical, concerts, masterclasses, and other things. There is a mid year concert there too. Every kids that are good enough to join the mid year concert will be chosen to play in the mid year concert. There are duets (two people in one piano) in piano and quartets. I played "Workin' On The Railroad" by E.R. Rocherolle for the quartet in the mid-year concert with Jovanska Amedia S., Fina A. Nugroho, and Christiato Gunawan (but on the guidance book for the concert he's called The Christianto). You can watch the video here. And here are the pictures:

This is when I and my quartet friends are about to bow.

My Fourth Coursera Certificate

I got my fourth Coursera certificate! Yay! It's about dinosaurs! I joined this course last year but I failed to get the certificate. And this year, I got it! And I earned 96.7%. It's the highest point that I got among the four certificates that I got. Here's the picture of my certificate:

My 3rd Coursera Certificate

I earned another certificate from Coursera. The course is about exploring Beethoven's Piano Sonatas. The teacher was Jonathan Biss, from Curtis Institute of Music. The course is quite difficult for me. I don't really understand all of them. I think it will be useful for my music lesson later when I'm taking a deeper lesson about Beethoven's sonatas. But the course itself was wonderful. I thought I will not get the Statement Of Accomplishment because I made many mistakes in the tests, as I remember the score of one of my test is 3.00 out of 5.00. But I got it and I feel very surprised. I earned 76.6%.  Thanks to the course, they said that if we want to achieve a Statement Of Accomplishment we should at least earn 30 points from 50 points (It's exactly like 3.00 out of 5.00). Here's the picture of my Statement Of Accomplishment:

My Newest Trophy

Hello Everyone!

I joined a piano competition today. The competition is held in Medan, Surabaya, and Jakarta. I'm from Jakarta. The competition started from this morning until this evening. It is in Alam Sutera Menara Top Food. I compete with Jakarta contestants, none of them are from other provinces. But, because I won the 2nd commendation ( In Indonesian language it's harapan dua), I  will join the final round, which will be held on October 2014. We still don't know the date and place of the final competition yet. At first they said that the final will be held on June, but now they change it. Maybe it's too close? I met my classmate Jacqueline in the competition. She joined the competition too. We have some fun there. This is the picture of me and my trophy:

There's a writing on the trophy which says:
2nd Commendation Award of Indonesia Piano Competition
2014 Jakarta Elementary B.
I hope everyone have a good time!

My second Coursera certificate.

I joined another course from Coursera. It's a writing course and the writing course is called Crafting an Effective Writer: Tools of the trade  by Lawrence (Larry) Barkley, Ted Blake, and Lorrie Ross. It was held by Mt. San Jacinto College. It's a SO FANTASTIC course, just like my first Coursera course, and all of the lessons taught there is very useful for me and my writing. I got a statement of accomplishment, and I earned 87.6 %, well, it's not distinction, the point to earn a distinction is to get 95% maybe around that or 500 points. Below 80% you'll not earn any Statement of Accomplishment . So I'm very proud of it!.
